At present, when Jews hear the word “hostage” they tend to think of the 50 hostages currently held by Hamas, of whom twenty are thought still to be alive. But hostage-taking is a tool of many other evil regimes, most notably the Islamic Republic of Iran. Just a month ago, the State Department issued a warning, in Persian and in English, urging Americans—including those who also hold Iranian citizenship—to avoid travel to Iran precisely because of this danger.
