Not Without My Daughter.
The 1991 film Not Without My Daughter—starring Sally Field and based on Betty Mahmoody’s 1987 memoir of the same name, about her escape from Islamist Iran—could not be filmed in the country where the story took place. After some consideration, the producers decided to film it in Israel. Miryam Zakheim writes:
