There Will Be No Peace in Gaza While Hamas Roams the Streets

Yesterday, the Egyptian foreign minister announced that fifteen Palestinians have been selected to make up the “technocratic” committee that will administer Gaza in accordance with the October 2025 cease-fire agreement. The committee, which has been publicly endorsed by both the Palestinian Authority and Hamas, will be subordinate to a Board of Peace, to be composed of foreign officials and dignitaries. The same day, the American envoy Steve Witkoff confirmed the Egyptian announcement and added that the U.S. will be moving forward with phase 2 of the cease-fire, although, as Witkoff acknowledged, Hamas has neither disarmed nor handed over the remains of Ran Gvili, who was abducted on October 7, 2023.
