On Monday, Donald Trump announced a 25-percent tariff on imports from any country that continues to violate sanctions on Iran, although it is not clear yet if it has been enforced. Yesterday, following reports of diplomatic outreach from Tehran, the president declared that he had “canceled” meetings with Iranian officials and reassured protesters that “help is on the way.” The regime has meanwhile continued its efforts to quash dissent by slaughter, maiming, and mass arrests. The dead now number in the thousands, and executions of those who have been jailed are expected to begin today. Ahmad Sharawi writes:
