A crusader fortress and war against Hizballah.
Over the weekend, as part of a major ground offensive, Israeli troops seized Beaufort Castle in southeastern Lebanon, a crusader fortification built in the 12th century. Christian knights chose the site for the same reason the PLO used it in the past, Hizballah has been using it more recently, and the IDF captured it in 1982 and again in 2026: it commands the heights over southern Lebanon and northern Israel. On the Hebrew calendar, Sunday was the anniversary of the day that Israel seized the hilltop the first time. The location, therefore, has great symbolic as well as tactical value. But can securing it actually translate into a strategic victory over Hizballah?
