Hamas’s Narrative about the War with Israel Has Shifted from One of Victory to One of Suffering

No longer the Battle of Badr, but righteous martyrdom.

In the immediate wake of October 7, Hamas and its supporters repeatedly compared their success attacking Israel to a purportedly miraculous victory described in the Quran, the Battle of Badr, in which Mohammad and his followers defeated a far larger force defending the city of Mecca.
