As Hamas has accepted part of Donald Trump’s proposal for the war’s end, and wants to negotiate the rest, the bulk of the analysis I’ve been reading—especially coming from Israeli commentators—seems divided between those who think the Israeli strike on Qatar was an epic mistake that allowed Trump to force a deal on Benjamin Netanyahu, and those who think that, despite missing its target, the strike on Qatar gave Trump an opportunity to force the Arab states and Turkey to get behind the American plan. (Interestingly, Israeli proponents of both interpretations are happy with the outcome.)
