Why Israel Opposes the Upcoming Paris Peace Conference

Only direct negotiations can succeed.

This Sunday, France will host representatives from some 70 countries for a conference on resolving the Israel-Palestinian conflict. Israel has declined to attend, and it is also not clear whether a Palestinian representative will be present. Explaining Israel’s decision, Dore Gold notes that direct, face-to-face talks succeeded in negotiations with Jordan and Egypt, and argues that these are the only way to achieve peace with the Palestinians.
