Walter Laqueur 1921-2018

A great scholar passes on.

With the death at ninety-seven of Walter Laqueur, prolific and wide-ranging historian, political analyst, and memoirist, the world of letters—and of Jewish intellectual culture—has lost another long-serving eminence and champion. Among Laqueur’s diverse stellar contributions to Mosaic are his learned, thorough, haunting examination of “The Many Lives of the Protocols of the Elders of Zion and a winsome look back at himself as a teenage athlete in Nazi Germany and in the Palestine to which he escaped in 1938. The editors of Mosaic join its readers in mourning his loss.
