The Return to Judaism: Personal Perspective

Rationalism, theology, and Rolling Stone.

Today it is hardly unusual to find returnees to religious observance—baalei t’shuvah—in any Orthodox community, but until the 1970s this phenomenon was quite rare. The journalist Ellen Willis, in a 1977 essay in Rolling Stone, documented her brother’s embrace of tradition and her own decision not to follow suit.
