On Friday, Mayor Zohran Mamdani found himself in the awkward position of having to condemn some of the more vile and anti-Semitic statements of the Kuwaiti-American author Susan Abulhawa, who routinely throws around epithets like “Jewish supremacist cockroach.” The condemnation was made necessary following the revelation that Mamdani’s wife, Rama Duwaji, provided an illustration for one of Abulhawa’s short stories—itself a work of anti-Israel propaganda—and approved social-media posts celebrating and denying the October 7 attacks.
