Technological Wizardry Won’t Cut Off Hamas’s Lifeline to Egypt

Why the IDF needs to be in the Philadelphi Corridor.

On Monday, Benjamin Netanyahu gave a rare press conference in which he sought to explain his reluctance to relinquish control of the Gaza-Egypt border, known as the Philadelphi Corridor, to Hamas. This stretch of territory, less than nine miles in length, has served for decades as the terrorist group’s main route for importing arms and other military supplies. Yet some members of the IDF brass seem to believe that Israel can afford to leave the corridor, with a few suggesting the installation of a system of sensors to make sure that Hamas can’t reestablish its supply lines.
