Despite the accumulating evidence to the contrary, Russian officials have stuck with their story that Israel is responsible for last week’s accidental downing of a Russian plane by Syria. Moreover, Moscow announced that it will provide its Syrian allies with the S-300 antiaircraft missile system, which is more sophisticated than the Russian-produced system currently in use by Bashar al-Assad’s forces.
