Shooting missiles at American soldiers shouldn’t go unpunished.
On Monday, an Iraqi Shiite militia launched at least fourteen missiles at a U.S. military base in Iraq, killing a civilian contractor and wounding six others, including an American serviceman. The perpetrators belong to a powerful network of guerrilla groups supplied, trained, and controlled by the Islamic Republic, which have been a thorn in the side of the U.S. and a scourge on the local population. In a press release, the State Department declared that it is “outraged” and would “support . . . all efforts to investigate and hold accountable those responsible,” but did not mention who those might be or threaten any concrete action.
