Iranian Oil Smuggling Brought Destruction to Israeli Waters

While providing Syria with fuel.

On February 17, tar began to wash up on Israeli beaches, soon amounting to the largest ecological disaster in Israel’s history. Experts then traced the tar to a spill from an oil tanker traveling from Iran to Syria. While the Israeli environmental protection minister, Gila Gamliel, went so far as to blame Tehran for deliberately committing an act of “ecoterrorism,” neither independent sources nor Israeli security officials have confirmed this claim. But even if the spill was accidental, the Islamic Republic is hardly blameless, as Judy Maynard writes:
