Earlier this month, the U.S. announced that it would renew shipments of 500-pound bombs to Israel, but would continue to withhold its larger, 2,000-pound explosives. Its stated reason is that such munitions risk unnecessary harm to civilians if used in the densely populated areas of Gaza where Hamas operates.
