Being an American Jewish Writer after October 7

And the literary anti-Semities who ban their own books to spite Israel.

In a sensitive and thoughtful interview, the American novelist Nicole Krauss discusses the effect of Hamas’s war on Israel on her own family and on the Jewish imagination (both in Israel and the diaspora), her experience writing fiction, the perversity of those writers who effectively want to censor their own work by keeping it from being published in Hebrew, and much else. Krauss also speaks about her connection to Israel—how it was passed to her by older relatives and how she in turn passes it on to her children. (Interview by Tamar Ish Shalom. Audio, 55 minutes.)
