A German Jewish Historian Reflects on Sixteen Centuries of History, and on His Own Story

From Nazi Germany to a kibbutz to fighting the Axis in Africa.

Born in Germany in 1923, Guenter Lewy escaped the Nazis to settle on a kibbutz in British-ruled Palestine in 1939. Three years later, he enlisted in the British army to join the fight against Hitler. He settled in the U.S. after World War II, where he became a distinguished historian and the author of numerous books. In conversation with Clifford May, he discusses his most recent, Jews and Germans: Promise, Tragedy, and the Search for Normalcy, along with his own life and experiences. (Audio, 34 minutes.)
